Lainey Wilson left her mark on the 2025 American Music Awards with her stunning looks as well as her live debut performance of her newest single, “Somewhere Over Laredo.”
On Monday, May 27, Wilson stepped on stage at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas in an all-white ensemble complete with a flowing cape and matching cowboy hat. Her timeless look stood out as smoke filled the space around her and a set of dreamy images lit up the screens around her.
The songstress appeared on a small round platform in front of a white grand piano and a rhinestone mic in tow, while a full band accompanied her performance from the sides. From the minute her vocals escaped through the speakers, Wilson had commanded the audience’s attention.

Set against a mid-tempo groove, Lainey Wilson found herself reflecting on a past love while soaring “thirty thousand feet in the clouds.” Through her signature heartfelt storytelling, she paints a vivid picture of a relationship that was strong in the moment, but ultimately was always destined to drift apart. As the journey unfolds, she tips her hat to the Lone Star State for having a special spot in her heart as it holds the memories of a love now gone.
“Somewhere over Laredo/ Dreaming about those rodeo nights/ Laid there on the banks of the Rio/ New silver buckle on your jeans next to mine/ Couple wrong for each other, lone star-crossed lovers/ Born to get gone from the get-go/ But you’re on my mind every time I’m chasing this neon rainbow/ Somewhere over Laredo,” she sang while showcasing her award-winning vocals.
“Somewhere Over Laredo,” was written by Lainey Wilson alongside Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson, and Andy Albert. The tune was cleverly influenced by Judy Garland’s classic Wizard of Oz track, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The song is set to officially impact country radio today (May 27) via Broken Bow Records. Fans will hear the new track as it world premieres across all major U.S. Country Radio Stations.
In addition to her epic performance, Lainey Wilson also attended the AMAs as a nominee in the category of favorite female country artist. She walked the red carpet dressed to the nines in a Rahul Mishra designed floral pant suit and matching sheer cape and made her way inside the event, where she competed for the win alongside Beyoncé, Ella Langley, Kacey Musgraves and Megan Moroney, but the trophy ultimately went to Beyoncé.
“Queen B” also took home favorite country album for Cowboy Carter. Other country acts who took home wins during the annual ceremony included Post Malone and Morgan Wallen for favorite country song with their duet, “I Had Some Help” and Dan + Shay for favorite country duo or group.
Lainey Wilson’s AMAs appearance came hot on the heels of her milestone night at the 2025 ACM where she took home her second consecutive entertainer of the year award. She was the first women to do so since Taylor Swift won the award back-to-back in 2009 and 2010.

Wilson is currently in the midst of her nearly sold-out Whirlwind World Tour. This trek follows the tour’s first leg, which found her performing sold-out shows across the U.K and Europe earlier this year.
She is next set to take the stage at the Gulf Coast Jam in Panama City Beach, FL on May 30. Wilson will also deliver several performances throughout Nashville’s CMA Fest, taking place June 5-8.
