Megan Moroney Teases ‘Lighter’ and ‘Really Fun’ New Album

Megan Moroney is already hard at work on her next album and says fans can expect something a little different this time around.

During an interview with People at the 2025 American Music Awards, the 27 year old revealed that her next album, which will serve as the follow up to 2024’s Am I Okay?, which debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and marked the year’s third-biggest debut from a female Country artist, is already more than half way finished.

“I’m always writing. I mean, I would say that my next album is probably like 80% written,” she shared from the AMAs red carpet.

For her third studio record, which has yet to be announced, Moroney will continued to write about her real life experiences, however, the overall tone for the record will be “light and carefree and happy.”

“I just try to live my life and write about it,” she told the publication. “So that’s kind of how this next album is shaping up, too. Just like the last ones — I was writing about my life experiences. So the strategy behind it hasn’t changed. It’s still the same.”

But don’t worry – her signature emo cowgirl flair will be sprinkled throughout.

“I would say I’ve still got the emo cowgirl staples on there because it wouldn’t be a Megan Moroney album without some heart-wrenching thing, but I do think it’s lighter and it’s really fun,” she explained.

She also revealed that there’s plenty of new music to choose from.

“I’ve got so many songs on my phone right now that I’m just like… I know my fans are just going to freak out.”

While chatting with Billboard that same evening, Moroney revealed the the only guest she currently has confirmed for the project is her friend and former tour mate, Kenny Chesney, who appears on the recently released track, “You Had To Be There.”

“Well, I will say right now the only confirmed collab for the next album would be the Kenny song, but I’ve got a couple people in mind,” she said. “I’ve been really inspired by Ed Sheeran stuff, so I would love to do a song with him, but this is not me teasing anything. I’m just speaking.”

Moroney told Billboard that she is in contact with Ed Sheeran, who recently emailed her in the middle of the night.

“The other day he emailed me at 3:00 AM and was like, ‘I’m listening to ‘Girl in the Mirror.’ It’s so good.’ I’m like, ‘What?!’”

Megan Moroney is in the midst of her sold-out AM I OKAY? TOUR, which is set to roll through Savannah, Georgia this week. After a performance at Gulf Coast Jam on June 1, Moroney will return to Nashville, where she’s set to make multiple appearances at CMA Fest.
