Maddox Batson Talks Stardom, Songwriting, And Securing A Slot On Tour With Lainey Wilson

At just 15 years old, Maddox Batson is already mastering the balancing act between homeschooling and doing everyday house chores while also writing music, selling out tours, and living up to his status as a viral sensation.

Even though his thriving music career is keeping him booked and busy, he still finds the time to be a teenager.

“It is tough at times, but for me, I mean, I’m lucky. I’ll work and then I’ll have a little bit of free time and then I’ll work and then I’ll have a little bit of free time, which I love,” he told Country Now during CMA Fest in Nashville. “I still do homeschool and stuff like that. I go hang out with my buddies. I still do chores, I still do the dishes, I still make my bed and all that kind of stuff.”

Batson has found another passion in playing golf as a way to slow things down and recenter himself.

“You find ways, what works for you to help your brain slow down. And luckily I found my few ways,” he added.

Building Out His Deluxe Project, ‘First Dance (The After Party)’

Luckily, when it comes to music, Batson is just as intentional about his creative decisions as he is in his everyday life. He may be on the younger side of those in the music business, but the “Girl In Green” singer hasn’t let that stop him from showing nothing but maturity when it comes to his work. And that starts with the behind the scenes decision making in his projects and his live shows.

With his latest body of work, the deluxe album, First Dance (The After Party), Batson explained that he was extremely intentional about crafting a set of songs that that speak directly to his listeners.

“Some of my goals for just making music in general and specifically this project would just be very relatable. I am 15, so I can’t relate to the older guys, but I’ll try to relate to the people that are relatively around my age group. So I try to write about coming-of-age songs and teen love and that kind of stuff,” he explained.

He then explained that his team has allowed him to have “a lot” of creative freedom, which he feels “blessed” to have.

“I get to choose what songs I love and all this kind of stuff. It also goes through my label and my publishing, there’s just so many eyes and ears on the songs, and we all just come together and choose the best.”

‘I Need A Truck’ Tour To Kick Off This Fall

The deluxe EP follows Batson’s announcement of the I Need A Truck Tour, which kicks off on September 7 in Richmond, Virginia and features 29 dates across the United States. With the news out into the world, Batson reveals that 50,000 tickets have been claimed, making it a fully sold-out run.

He claims to be “super excited” to get back out on the road and is doing all the necessary preparations in order to give fans his best on stage each night.

“I’m working with my vocal coach, her name is Mama Jan. She’s great, taught some absolutely have amazing people such as Justin Bieber and Usher and Drake and all those guys. So I’m in good company, right?” he said with a smile.

The Alabama raised, Nashville born teen is also working with a trainer in the gym to prepare for the rigorous cardio that comes with an on-stage performance, and finalizing decisions surrounding his stage production, his overall tour schedule and more.

“It’s a whole lot that goes into this touring stuff, but it’s super duper fun every night when you get to come out and you see thousands of screaming girls hanging out. So it is really, really cool. I’m super blessed and super excited. It’s going to be great.”

Getting The Call To Open For Lainey Wilson

On top of his fall headlining run, Batson has been tapped to serve as support on select dates of Lainey Wilson’s Whirlwind Tour.

Recalling the moment he learned the milestone news, Batson shared, “I was shouting, screaming, and shouting at my desk. It was really, really fun. And I think I actually had my mic on, I was playing games with of my boys and I had a mic on and they were like, ‘Maddox, what is going on?’ But I had to put the mic up and actually lock in. It was really, really cool.”

He went on to say that it is “an honor” to get to be on the road alongside who he deems to be “one of, if not the biggest woman in country music right now.”

The pair of artists first got the chance to interact during an unexpected run-in backstage at the 2025 ACM Awards.

“Me and her just walked at the same time and her and her fiancé Duck were just hanging out. And I was like, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ And they’re like, ‘oh my God, Maddox.’ It was super cool. I mean a great human and she’s a great person. I’m really, really excited. It’s going to be great.”

Gearing Up For Bridgestone Debut

During the treck, Maddox Batson will experience a full circle moment when he makes his debut at Bridgestone Arena. He explained that the opportunity to play the Nashville venue for one of his first major arena shows means a lot to him, especially since his sister previously worked in the same building on staff for Music City’s hocky team, The Predators.

“She worked there last year before she came to work with me. And it’s just such a full circle moment. I mean it’ll be really full circle when I’m playing there by myself, but I’m just super excited.”

Goals For 2025

But even as he gears up to step onto arena stages, Maddox is keeping his eyes on his main goals in 2025, which is to “have a great tour, be safe, everyone just have a good time.”

He’s also hoping to keep putting out original music that resonates and hopefully hit a major milestone with his song “Tough,” which he wrote for Lana Del Rey.

“Hopefully by the end of the year that’ll be platinum. It’s on the way right now. It is gold right now, but I’m waiting on it to be platinum. I’m really excited for that,” he shared. “It went number one in the UK and hit 300 million streams on Spotify. So yeah, pretty cool song. It was my first ever songwriter’s cut too, so not bad.”

For now, Maddox Batson is just taking it all in and feeling grateful, excited, and determined to keep making music that connects. “Just as long as I’m having a good time by the end of the year, that’s all I need.”
