John Michael Montgomery is officially hanging up his hat with one final show, scheduled for December 12 at Rupp Arena in his home state of Kentucky.
This farewell performance will mark the end of an extraordinary career that began in 1992. Over the years, the country hitmaker has charted an impressive 36 singles, including seven No.1s, released 11 studio albums with millions in sales, and collected a long list of accolades, including numerous Multi-Platinum and Gold RIAA certifications, along with countless industry awards and nominations. Montgomery is best known for hits like “Life’s A Dance,” “I Love The Way You Love Me,” “Sold,” “Be My Baby Tonight,” “I Swear,” and many more.
It will be a true family affair, with John Michael Montgomery sharing the stage alongside his brother Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry, his son Walker Montgomery, and his son-in-law Travis Denning.
“I stepped on a tour bus for the first time in 1992 and haven’t looked back since, but now it’s time to bring it all back home for my last concert and I can’t think of a better place than Rupp Arena. I wanted to celebrate this occasion with my family, so I invited some of them to perform with me. We are going to have a lot of fun and end this ride in a big way,” Montgomery shared.
Tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime show go on sale soon, with a special pre-sale running from Wednesday, July 30 at 10 a.m. through Thursday, July 31 at 10 p.m. using the code MONTGOMERY, followed by the general on-sale beginning Friday, August 1 at 10 a.m.
John Michael Montgomery announced his retirement from the road in early 2024, revealing plans to “wind down” his touring career throughout 2024 and 2025.
Reflecting on the beginning of his decades-long career, Montgomery previously admitted, “It was so surreal to me. And of course like any new artist would, I worried about how long it would last and hoped it would not be a ‘flash in the pan’ career,” he admitted before adding, “So every album, every song, and every year of being able to do what I love for so many years, and for the fans who have supported me and my music, I’ve cherished those moments very deeply.”
Montgomery later took a moment to express his heartfelt gratitude to the fans who’ve supported him throughout his journey and helped shape his career. He emphasized that while he’s stepping away from touring, he’s not saying goodbye to performing for good.
“So, a BIG thank you to them all! I’m not saying I’m never gonna step on stage and perform again, I still love that feeling of entertaining and the crowd cheering and singing along with my songs as much as that first show over thirty years ago, and it all started when my parents got me on stage when I was a kid. So I’m sure there will be some situations where I just need to do a show here and there because I’ll miss that too much. But I just feel the time has come to say goodbye to the road life,” the Kentucky-born artist explained.
