Lainey Wilson recently invited Drew Baldridge to join her for a rendition of “Save Me,” her chart-topping hit with Jelly Roll, and to mark the moment, she gave him fake face tattoos with a Sharpie, replicating Jelly Roll’s signature ink.
During their performance at Hooftbeat Music Festival in Wisconsin, Wilson turned to Baldridge mid-song and joked, “You look a lot like Jelly Roll. We just need to draw you a little teardrop right here.”
Looking around the stage, Wilson asked, “Do you have a permanent marker? Hold up, I’ve got a permanent marker.”
Baldridge appeared to be stunned and questioned, “Are you serious?”
Wilson then drew a teardrop on one side of his face and a cross on the other, teasing, “I’m gonna turn around and think, ‘Jelly Roll, is that you?’”
With his new “tattoos,” Baldridge finished the duet with Wilson, belting the emotional lyrics in unison:
“I’m a lost cause/ Baby, don’t waste your time on me/ I’m so damaged beyond repair/ Life has shattered my hopes and my dreams,” they sang.
Co-written by Jelly Roll (Jason DeFord) and David Ray Stevens, Jelly Roll first released a solo version of “Save Me” on his 2020 album, Self Medicated. The track took on new life when he teamed up with Lainey Wilson for a reimagined duet following their surprise performance at the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards. The powerful collaboration climbed to No.1 on the country charts in December of 2023, marking Jelly Roll’s third No.1 and Wilson’s fourth on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
After having the chance to sing “Save Me” with Wilson, the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year, Baldrdge reflected on the moment on social media.
“The following day Last night was an unforgettable night with @Lainey Wilson 😂 @Jelly Roll you definitely pull the tats off better than me,” he joked.
Lainey Wilson is set to perform at a few more festivals before she launches the U.S. leg of her highly anticipated Whirlwind World Tour. The trek is set to kick off on August 14 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Her new single, “Somewhere Over Laredo,” is at country radio now and will appear on her upcoming Whirlwind Deluxe release.
Drew Baldridge also has a slew of tour dates on the books, including shows with Bailey Zimmerman and various festivals like Watershed, Big Valley Jamboree, and more. Baldridge is working on new music as his single, “Tough People,” continues to impact the charts.
