Lainey Wilson Honors Small Towns And Lost Love In New Single, ‘Somewhere Over Laredo’

Lainey Wilson is heading to country radio with her heart pounding new single, “Somewhere Over Laredo,” out now via BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville

Written by the Grammy Award-winning artist alongside Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson, and Andy Albert, the dreamy, mid-tempo track finds Wilson reflecting on a past love that was as fiery as it was fleeting.

With vivid storytelling and a nod to the timeless classic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” Wilson paints a nostalgic story of a love that first blossomed on the banks of the Rio Grande.

Wilson recounts the heartfelt tale while singing, “I’m flying high on a 737/ Yeah, boy, I’m eye level with these stars/ You think I’d be five miles closer to heaven/ But I reckon heaven’s down there where you are/ Do you stop and stare at the Texas sky/ Up in the air, and wonder if I’m/ Somewhere over Laredo?”

Eventually, she comes to learn that what could once be best described as a rodeo romance was actually always destined to drift apart. Along the way, she tips her hat to not only the Lone Star state, but small towns all across the country.

Lending her authentic country vocals and unmistakable Louisiana drawl to the chorus, Wilson continues, “Somewhere over Laredo/ Dreaming about those rodeo nights/ Laid there on the banks of the Rio/ New silver buckle on your jeans next to mine/ Couple wrong for each other, lone star-crossed lovers/ Born to get gone from the get-go/ But you’re on my mind every time I’m chasing this neon rainbow/ Somewhere over Laredo.”

“Somewhere Over Laredo” is officially impacting radio this Tuesday, May 27 via Broken Bow Records. Fans will hear the new track as it world premieres across all major U.S. Country Radio Stations.

Additionally, Lainey Wilson is set to perform the song live for the first time at the 2025 American Music Awards this Monday, May 26. She is also heading into the coveted award show a nominee in the category of Favorite Female Country Artist.

The new release follows the momentum of Lainey Wilson’s string of career-defining moments over the past year. Most recently, she swept the 60th Annual ACM Awards with four wins including Entertainer of the Year (her second consecutive win), Female Artist of the Year (her third consecutive win), Album of the Year (Whirlwind) and Artist-Songwriter of the Year.
